Associate and Assistant Director Search

Recently, our long time director Randy Weir retired from directing the Pride of Iowa chorus.  Our assistant director, Nathan Green, has been hired to succeed Randy at the helm and the enthusiasm shown in the last few weeks under Nate has been extremely encouraging!

The Pride of Iowa (POI) chorus is now seeking applicants for the position of Associate Director, with compensation appropriate to the responsibilities the Associate Director will be asked to assume.  In addition, the POI is seeking people to fill roles as assistant directors/section leaders (non-paid positions).

The POI has a long history of barbershopping in the Central Iowa area and our present membership currently stands at nearly 80 individuals.   Although we have consistently placed well in Central States District competitions, The chapter’s management team wants to further improve our community involvement and our quality of performing, leading to improved competition ranking!

Responsibilities of the Associate Director will include:

1.     Expertise in musical knowledge, primarily of the barbershop style

2.     Superior motivational, organizational, communication and leadership skills

3.     Ability to work well with the Music Director and the Music & Performance VP

4.     Having time availability to handle weekly rehearsal warm-up activities, as well as assuming the director’s duties for rehearsals and performances when the director is not available.

5.     Assuming the responsibility of directing the services of the section leaders as necessary, as part of the overall music plan of the Musical Director

6.     Other musical direction responsibilities as assigned

Chorus activities presently include rehearsals on Monday nights, presently held at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 321 Euclid Avenue, Des Moines, at 7 pm.  In addition, the chorus presents an annual show in the spring and attends the Central States District competition annually in the fall.  Other performances include an appearance at the State Fair and doing Sermons in Song at several churches during the summer months, as well as occasional other public performances.

Individuals interested in being considered for either the Associate Director or Assistant Director positions should contact Ron Morden, Music & Performance VP, at [email protected] or by phone at 515-979-4698.
